Plant

The closed, dried bud of a protea on a short woody stem. Its bracts fade from rust and ochre at the base to blue-gray and lilac at the tips, with a fine violet fringe. In this botanical watercolor Mitikova lets several transparent washes overlap inside each bract, so warm and cool color mix within a single petal. One subject, centerd, with plenty of white paper around it. It pairs well with the other protea studies in the series if you want two or three on one wall.
