Plant 1

A tall protea stem with a pale yellow bud on top, wrapped in long wavy leaves that run from emerald to turquoise and lilac.

This is the most colorful sheet in Mitikova's botanical series. The leaves have crisp edges and soft gradations inside, which is how she shows their twist and gloss, and the whole plant rises diagonally across the paper. Watercolor on paper, 60 × 40 cm, 2021.
