Plant 3

A dried protea with a spray of thin, spidery bracts around a pale green center, and long leaves curling in lilac and slate below.

Anastasia Mitikova paints the bracts, in watercolor, in transparent straw and honey washes with fine dark outlines. The drawing is precise, the color soft, and the combination makes the flower look both clear and a little melancholy, which is the mood of the whole series.
