Description
Red poppies across a whole valley, running up to a flat-topped blue mountain. Anyone who has driven through Crimea or the south of France in late May has seen a field like this. Tyunkin divides the oil painting into three bands of sky, mountain and field, and lets the poppies get bigger and looser as they come toward you, so the bottom edge is almost pure red paint. The cool blue of the mountain stops the red from becoming too much.
