Venice

Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, the white baroque dome glowing against a flat, intense blue sky, with crowds on the square in front.

Skorobogatov builds the façade in thick oil impasto so the stone almost stands off the canvas, and keeps the sky smooth and saturated. The people below are small dashes of red, black and white. A tall little picture, 30 × 22 cm, for anyone who has stood on that square.
