Description
In this long oil seascape a girl sits on flat rocks at the foot of an ochre cliff and looks out at the sea. The water takes up most of the 80 cm canvas: emerald near the shore, cobalt further out, with white flicks of surf.
Alexey Petruhyn grew up watching ships come into the bay at Nikolaev and later lived in Odesa, and he paints the Black Sea coast like someone who has spent years on it. The rocks are thick and angular, the water is laid in long bands. The small figure is what turns a seascape into a story.
