Description
Two white swans on a still pond, in oil by Alexey Petruhyn. Above them, tall poplars, a red-leaved tree and a white building; below them, the same scene upside down in the water.
Petruhyn splits the canvas into the world and its reflection and gives both halves equal weight, painting the trees in bold vertical strokes of green, blue and rust. The swans are small and sit low in the picture, which makes them easy to miss at first and hard to stop looking at afterwards.
A pair of swans is a classic symbol of faithfulness, if you are looking for an anniversary or wedding present.
