Water Lilies

Water lilies crowd the foreground of a sunny pond. Beyond them, the still water reflects a line of dark trees on the far bank.

Petruhyn uses short horizontal marks for the lily pads and long vertical strokes for the reflections, and the meeting of the two gives the picture its rhythm. The lilies carry small touches of coral among the greens. Monet painted this subject for thirty years; Petruhyn's version is bolder and more physical.
